June 5th, 2007
The 2006 Annual Report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has just been released. The report provides a detailed account of the increasing range of OHCHR’s human rights work around the world; it reviews implementation of the 2006-2007 Strategic Management Plan (SMP) during the first half of the biennium, using the performance indicators set out in the document to gauge OHCHR’s progress. For the first time, this year’s report covers the entirety of the Office’s work-including both those elements funded under the United Nations regular budget and those funded from voluntary contributions.
2006 witnessed a significant expansion of OHCHR, with 212 additional staff recruited-158 in the field, 51 in Geneva-bringing to 851 the number of OHCHR staff worldwide.
