New Secretary General for 3iG

September 30th, 2008

Rev Séamus Finn OMI, a member of the executive committee of 3iG announced the appointment of a new Interim Secretary General for the organization, Katinka C. van Cranenburgh. Ms van Cranenburgh will work part-time, starting 1st of October 2008 and will be based in Barcelona, Spain. The Missionary Oblates are founding members of 3iG, an international, interfaith organization of faith-based investors working for a just and sustainable society through responsible investment.

Ms van Cranenburgh brings along a wealth of experience in the field of corporate responsibility and sustainability and has recently done research in the field of socially responsible investments. She has been working as International Health Manager at Heineken Health Affairs, both on the side of healthcare strategy for developing countries as well as coordination and implementation of health and sustainability related programmes. Ms. van Cranenburgh is vice chairman of the business board of the European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS) and is founding member of the Beer Selling Industry Cambodia (BSIC).

She has coordinated several multi-stakeholder projects and has an extensive network within the business, non-governmental, governmental, and not-for profit world. Ms van Cranenburgh is a guest lecturer at universities in Amsterdam (NL), Leiden (NL), Ashridge (UK), Barcelona (SP) and Tel Aviv (ISR). Ms van Cranenburgh has studied Publicity and Culture and has recently finalized executive education on international business administration (MBA) at the University of Amsterdam.

Ms van Cranenburgh is excited about this new opportunity, “3iG has clearly made an impressive start and I look forward to contributing to the ambition to grow in size, knowledge and action. I see myself as a change agent and believe ethics, sustainability and financial performance can and should enhance each other. Faith-based views on SRI investments are key to the entire field of ethical investments and together we can enhance the overlapping consensus.”

In the coming weeks Ms van Cranenburgh will contact the members of 3iG to introduce herself and to gather views on the role of investment and particularly its impact on private sector healthcare initiatives in developing countries, as part of research that she is carrying out. Examples of the issues she is researching are: whether or not this is a subject included in faith-based/SRI investment decisions, and should multinational corporations treat HIV/AIDS positive employees? With Ms van Cranenburgh on board, 3iG will continue to assist in refining the investment decision-making skills of faith-based organisations and to support dialogue leading to responsible investment strategies.

In making the announcement, Rev Séamus Finn OMI, a member of the executive committee, stated that “3ig was most fortunate to have found someone with Ms van Cranenburgh’s rich and diverse experience and qualifications to build on the solid foundation which 3iG members have been able to establish since the organization was launched in London in 2005. With this appointment 3iG is ready to bring new services and opportunities to faith based investors and to the growing socially responsible investment community”.
