Global Warming
Warming of the earth is a serious and present danger. Oblates from Bangladesh to Bolivia are trying to help people cope with increased natural disasters and decreased rainfall. In February 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reported with 90% certainty that human activity is causing climate change.
Through the ICCR Working Group on Global Warming, the Oblate Faith Consistent Investing initiative is calling on companies to reduce the environmental impact of their products and operations. We have begun in this work by focusing on corporations in the energy sector: primarily oil and gas. We are currently engaged with Exxon-Mobil and Chevron Corporation to urge more effective measuring, monitoring and reduction of their total greenhouse gas emissions and with Chevron Corporation, BP and others on the problems associated with exploitation of oil sands in Canada.
