Oblate Statements and Sign On Letters

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Oblate JPIC Office issue statements on issues of concern to the congregation or sign onto letters to policymakers when these reflect our priorities as articulated in Catholic Social Teaching.

  • Advocated for the Conscience Protection Act of 2016: The Conscience Protection Act would protect health care providers from penalties and discrimination and uphold their right to refuse to perform or provide abortions. 

Extractives/Mining

  • Religious Working Group on Extractives Industries Letter to Senator Kerry expressing concern over the murders of Berta Caceres and Nelson Garcia in Honduras.
  • In June, 2015 a letter by faith-based organizations and religious communities addressed to Secretary of State, John Kerry, supporting a U.S. law to create more transparency in oil and mining payments to governments.
