World Bank/IMF
The Oblate JPIC office is concerned about the impact of World Bank and International Monetary Fund projects and policies on the poor and the environment on which poor people depend for their survival. Based on the experience of Oblates working at the local level in affected countries, we advocate for:
- Cancellation of debt owed to Multilateral Development Institutions
- End to harmful economic policy conditions in Bank and Fund lending
- Greater transparency and accountability in Bank and Fund lending and operations
- Shift funding from fossil fuel projects to clean energy technologies
IMF Reform
The Oblate JPIC Office is a member of New Rules for Global Finance, a coalition of development, human rights, labor, environmental, and religious organizations and scholars dedicated to the reform of the global financial architecture in order to stabilize the world economy, reduce poverty and inequality, uphold fundamental rights, and protect the environment.
