US JPIC Committee Members and Staff Visit the Shed Dedicated to Darrell Rupiper, OMI on the Community Supported Agriculture Project at Godfrey, IL

On October 15 and 16, the United States Province Oblate Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) committee held a bi-annual strategy meeting in Godfrey, Illinois to review, share progress and discuss how to continue the JPIC work most effectively. Part of the agenda included brief updates from staff from the Washington JPIC office, the Oblate Ecological Initiative based in Godfrey and the General Service office in Rome. Committee members also reported on their JPIC work.

Quito Declaration Expresses Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in Central and South America July 8th, 2009

Representatives of civil society organizations working with Indigenous Peoples in many central and south American countries, especially in areas affected by mining, met from July 3-5. They published the Quito Declaration, “Declaration for Social and Environmental Justice and for Peace in Indigenous America”.

Countries represented and organizations signing on to the Declaration are listed in the Declaration which is available only in Spanish.

January 27-February 1, World Social Forum 2009 will occur in Belem, Para, Brazil.

February 4-6, Good Jobs, Green Jobs will gather labor, environmental and business leaders together to forge a green jobs agenda. The conference is in Washington, D.C., and will be an opportunity for sharing of ideas for creating careers in renewable energy and other fields related to solving the climate crisis. Educate lawmakers during a special Green Jobs Advocacy Day
