Doha Financing for Development Conference Calls for Greater Development Financing Despite Economic Crisis January 14th, 2009

The Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus was held in Doha, Qatar, on 29 November – 2 December 2008. The Conference adopted the Doha Declaration on Financing for Development with three key messages:
- strong commitment by developed countries to maintain their ODA targets irrespective of the current financial crisis;
- recognition that the United Nations has a vital role to play in addressing new challenges and emerging issues in financing for development; and
- decision to hold a UN Conference at the highest level on the impact of the current financial and economic crisis on development.

Thomas P. Kennedy, Honorary Oblate, Sworn in as Massachusetts Senator January 14th, 2009

Thomas P Kennedy HOMI was sworn in for his first term in the Massachusetts State Senate on January 7th 2009. This is the 186th session of the General Court which held its first session on Beacon Hill in 1780.
Tom served for more that 20 years in the house chamber (120 members) representing his native Brockton before moving this year to the Senate(40 members) where his constituency will have tripled.
