Obama Declares January 2013 National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month January 25th, 2013
All over the country, coalitions, churches, religious orders and individuals are mobilizing their communities this month to be the voices for those who are trapped in modern-day slavery. Many communities are organizing film viewings or a speaker series. And others are taking a less traditional approach. Some of the most interesting stories include:
- Techies are competing for cash to come up with new technology to combat human trafficking.
- The Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi Heights are ruining people’s lunches. Go, Sisters!
- In Ohio, a coalition is setting up camp in Wal-Mart to provide education on the issue of human trafficking.
- One business in North Carolina is baking cupcakes to end slavery.
- A stay-at-home mom is taking advocacy to new heights by climbing Mt. Everest to raise awareness!

National Migration Week 2013 December 18th, 2012
National Migration Week will be observed January 8 – 14. The theme for the 2013 observance is “We are Strangers No Longer: Our Journey of Hope Continues.”
The Missionary Oblate JPIC Office is inviting you to use this opportunity to raise awareness and educate your communities on the issue of immigration and Catholic Social Teaching.
The 2013 theme, “We are Strangers No Longer: Our Journey of Hope Continues,” commemorates the 10th anniversary of the historic joint pastoral letter of the United States and Mexico bishops conferences; Strangers No Longer: Together on the Journey of Hope.
The observance of National Migration Week began more than twenty-five years ago by the bishops in order to provide Catholics an opportunity to take stock of the wide diversity of the Church and to work for justice for immigrants.

USCCB Launches Respect Life Program for 2012-2013 October 9th, 2012
The United States Catholics Bishops Conference (USCCB) program has launched their 2012-2013 “Respect Life Program”. The Bishops are inviting Catholics to renew their personal commitment to defend all human life, especially for the most vulnerable members of the human family.
“By our unflinching defense of human life and religious freedom, by our witness to the transcendent nature of the human person, and by our compassionate service to our brothers and sisters in need, may we spark a renewal of love and commitment to the true good of others,” said Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston.
This year’s theme is: “Faith Opens Our Eyes to Human Life In All Its Grandeur and Beauty”. October is designated each year as Respect Life Month by the U.S. Catholic Church. Liturgical resources and prayers may now be downloaded from: www.usccb.org/about/pro-life-activities/respect-life-program/index.cfm. These materials contain articles on timely topics in the cause for protecting human life and dignity.
