Course Description:
This course explores ecological theology from a Christian perspective, focusing on the relationship between faith, creation, and environmental responsibility. Students will engage with critical Catholic teachings on ecological stewardship, including studying foundational documents such as Laudato Si’ and other papal encyclicals.
Through theological reflection and analysis of contemporary environmental issues, the course will highlight the moral and spiritual dimensions of caring for the earth as part of Christian responsibility. Students will also explore how Catholic social teaching calls for justice, sustainability, and a commitment to the common
good in addressing the global ecological crisis.
good in addressing the global ecological crisis.This course will provide students with an opportunity to study Christian eco-theologians such as Teilhard de Chardin, Leonardo Boff, Thomas Berry, Elizabeth Johnson, and Ernst M. Conradie. Conradie’s book Christianity and Ecological Theology will be our primary resource. Lastly, students will prepare themselves to become ecological leaders in their future ecclesial ministries.
