2026 Season of Creation Final Reflection
October 2nd, 2026
(Reflections by Maurice Lange, Justice & Peace Director at Presentation Sisters & founder of the Oblate Ecological Initiative)
We are ending the Season of Creation with this last Reflection inspired by Pope Leo’s letter and theme for the observance:
“They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks” — (Isaiah 2:4)
REFLECTION: “…God does not leave us without the means of healing and transformation.” Along with this assurance, Pope Leo encourages us in our call to safeguard ecosystems…and, he also challenges us to imagine.
Safeguarding and imagining. Safeguarding requires God’s gift of strength. Imagining is plainly counter-cultural.
As we near the end of this Season of Creation:
-What “ecosystem” are you actively safeguarding?
-Devote at least twice as much time to imagining as you currently do!
ACTION: Leo links the imagining of a world beyond war with our faith in the coming of God’s kingdom. Author Philip José Farmer once said “Imagination is like a muscle”. Strengthen your ability to imagine & envision! Here are some exercises! (https://www.thedailymeditation.com/imagination-exercises)
“Because Christ’s promises appeal to our imagination: they help us to imagine in a new way our lives, our history and the future of humanity.” – Pope Francis in an Audience, 5/27/23
