Enabling Access to Capital
The provision of responsible and prudent credit to underserved communities and individuals through microfinance and other instruments – in the U.S. and throughout the world – helps to promote human development and build community. Pressing the formal financial sector to participate responsibly in these activities by making a positive contribution to this effort remains a priority for the OMI faith consistent investing program.
The Missionary Oblates work with other members of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) through corporate dialogues and the filing of shareholder resolutions to press companies to adopt these priorities.
Core issues raised in these meetings have been:
- the risk management policies and structure of the corporation
- responsible evaluation of new tools and products introduced into the financial system especially regarding their impact on liquidity and instability.
